Russel Cameron's grotesque but somehow almost beautiful sculptures possess human characteristics such as skin texture and some form of anatomical structure, but they're fashioned into blobby, nightmarish almost sexual forms.
These forms seem similar to human body parts, but deformed and unsettling, with no context or meaning. This is where Cameron asks us to look past the the revolting and see the detail and beauty in each sculpture (if you can).
The self-taught sculptor works out of Brooklyn and says he is influenced by surrealists like Hieronymus Bosch and H.R. Giger and inspired by the technical discipline of romantic painters like Francisco Goya.
In his sculptures he mimicks flesh perfectly which has always been one of the most difficult tasks for any artist. It is notoriously difficult for many reasons, skin has so many different textures, colours and anomalies, but Cameron seems to have mastered all the intricacies of it.
